Ruins of Gao Chang

Posted by Lai Chan See (Singapore, Singapore) on 13 June 2014 in Architecture and Portfolio.

The ancient city of Gao Chang was situated in the Gobi Desert along the Silk Road. It was built as a garrison town in the 1st century before Christ, but because of incessant fighting between the Mongols and the Uighurs the town was abandoned during the 14th century. Ruins of the ancient town can be seen about 45 km south-east of Turpan in Xinjiang Province.
